FREE Teaching Resources to Help Prisoners Live Victoriously

“You are the salt of the earth . . .”

—Matthew 5:13

Seven Areas of Life Training (SALT) is now available FREE to Prison Fellowship volunteers to teach prisoners how to apply foundational biblical truths to all aspects of their lives—spiritual, psychological, social, physical, financial, marital, and parental.

Through a special partnership with Victorious Christian Living International—creator of the SALT discipleship series—Prison Fellowship has obtained a three-year license to produce English and Spanish versions of the series for use in prisons.

The SALT series includes seven different participant guides (with four lessons each) and an Instructor’s Manual (which covers the full series). The lessons include Scripture passages, discussion and application questions, and simple diagrams that illustrate important truths and make them easy to remember and share with others.

Here’s one example from the study guide Psychological—My Mind, Will and Emotions:

Encompassing All Areas of Life

“I have been using the SALT materials for the last two years in our Prison Fellowship seminars. SALT has been well received by the inmates in a powerful way. It has a great way to diagram each section, making the message clear and easy to understand at all educational levels.”

—Hazel Crivelli, PF volunteer

“I like the simplicity of the materials; the diagrams help to illustrate the points being taught . . . The SALT program has touched on areas that other PF materials have not, such as physical, financial, and somewhat the psychological areas. I was surprised at how moving the financial part of SALT turned out to be—maybe the Holy Spirit was pouring out a special blessing that day.”

—Barbara James, PF volunteer

Here’s a rundown of what the series covers:

  1. Spiritual – My Relationship with God: Teaches participants who they are in Christ and how to live in the reality of that new identity.
    .
  2. Psychological – My Mind, Will, and Emotions: Teaches how to deal with the challenges of life in God’s way, rather than the world’s way. Helps them replace the spoiled fruit of their lives with good fruit as they uncover the lies they live by and renew their minds with God’s truth.
    .
  3. Social – My Relationship with Others: Teaches how to embrace God’s love for others so that they can respond with compassion and forgiveness—even with “difficult” people. Applied lessons can lead to healing broken relationships and strengthening good ones.
    .
  4. Physical – My Body: Teaches that their bodies belong to God and that they can experience freedom from bondage as they stay within God’s boundaries.
    .
  5. Financial – My Money: Teaches how to experience financial freedom as they learn to earn honestly, give generously, spend wisely, and invest carefully. Includes worksheets to help identify and address financial concerns.
    .
  6. Marital – My Marriage: Teaches that God’s design for intimacy in marriage means much than sex; it is becoming joined spiritually, psychologically, and physically. Shares how to restore intimacy when conflict has caused a separation.
    .
  7. Parental – My Children: Teaches how to raise children to mature adults through a proper balance of acceptance and accountability. Helps them indentify their own parenting style and how it affects their children, both positively and negatively.

Salt_Book_Covers_250pxDesigned for a Variety of Structures

Since the series is divided into seven areas, and each area is divided into four lessons, you can cover part of all of the material, as you choose. You could cover it in seminar format—one area per seminar—devoting part of the time to large-group teaching and part to small-group discussion.

You could also cover the material in smaller chunks through a weekly Bible study. (It’s best, however, if the members of your study remain the same each week; it would be hard for an inmate to get involved in the middle of the teaching on a particular area.)

Order Your FREE Materials

Prison Fellowship volunteers may order each guide separately—as many copies as you need. However, because they are free, we ask that you order only what you need for your event (seminar, Bible study, etc.). Please do not stockpile materials.

Simply call the Prison Fellowship Program Support Center at 1-800-251-7411 (even the call is free!), and provide the appropriate title and item code, listed below.
