Prison Fellowship’s passion is to see lives changed.
Prisons in the United States are filled with 2.3 million people. Every year, more than 700,000 are released. And within three years, more than 50 percent of them will be back in prison. A recent study by the Pew Center on the States reveals that one in 31 individuals are either in prison, on parole, or on probation. Despite spending over $68 billion dollars on corrections in 2008—a 300 percent increase over the last 20 years—the recidivism rate for those leaving prison remains unchanged over that time.
Prison Fellowship reaches out to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families—both as an act of service to Jesus Christ and as a contribution to restoring peace to our cities and communities endangered by crime. We believe that the best way to transform our communities is the transformation of the people within those communities—and that true restorative change comes only through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
By partnering with churches, like-minded ministries, government and volunteers across the nation, Prison Fellowship seeks the transformation of prisoners and their reconciliation to God, family, and community. We believe that prisoners can become productive ambassadors for Christ, both in prison and beyond.
